How to Clean Your Hearing Aids

Daily cleaning is one of the most important steps you can take to ensure your hearing aids work their best. Here’s how you can incorporate these habits into your routine for optimal results:

  • Always wash and dry your hands before handling your hearing aids.
  • Clean your devices over a soft surface to avoid accidental drops or damage.
  • For best results, clean your hearing aids in the morning after they’ve been off your ears overnight. Any moisture, earwax, or skin debris will be dry and easier to remove, helping prevent smearing or buildup.
  • Use a wire loop to gently remove earwax from the receiver, and a wax pick for the vent.
  • A soft brush, suitable for in-the-ear devices and microphones, helps eliminate debris.
  • Use a multi-tool if your hearing aid has a traditional hearing aid battery to aid in battery removal
  • Place your hearing aids, with battery doors open, in a hearing aid drier such as AGX Protect/Perfect Dry Lux or Dry&Store overnight.
  • After drying, gently brush microphones and clean the case or shell with a soft cloth or brush. For stubborn debris, use a lightly damp cloth.
  • Never use soaking wet cloths, unapproved solutions, or cotton swabs, and never submerge your hearing aids in water.
